EDEN ISS — Ground Demonstration of Plant Cultivation Technologies for Safe Food Production in Space

Winners of the Children’s Competition

The EDEN ISS drawing competition invited children between the ages 6 and 12 to submit original artwork based on closed-loop greenhouse agriculture for future application in space. Two themes were introduced asking children to either: depict an environment, or a place that would benefit from the fresh production of fruits and vegetables using the EDEN ISS greenhouse; or to illustrate the interior of the EDEN ISS greenhouse filled with their choice of freshly cultivated plants.

Participant entries were accepted via post, or as downloads to the EDEN ISS website between 24. October 2018 and February 3., 2019. Winners were selected by EDEN ISS project partners at the close of the project in Bremen, Germany in late May 2019.

In total, 87 entries were received, and 27 winners were selected with consideration to drawing theme and contestant’s age.

It was not easy to determine the winning entries, since every entry was super special. We totally appreciated participant’s efforts in learning about project EDEN ISS and representing their ideas in line with EDEN ISS project goals.
